NHS Midlands and East, as the successor body for NHS East Midlands, has today presented evidence to the House of Commons Health Select Committee on behalf of NHS East Midlands, which challenges the claim by Gary Walker, the former chief executive of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, that he raised patient safety concerns as a whistleblower. 

Healthcare staff who work with patients are being urged to have the flu jab to help protect themselves, their families and their patients as flu season approaches. The vaccination is provided free by employers to frontline NHS staff who come into regular contact with patients to help keep them flu free and reduce the risk of spread amongst their family and patients.

There are just two weeks until the Healthcare Bus is back on the road for national Self Care Week, which takes place between 12 and 18 November 2012. This time it’s making stops in Suffolk, Northamptonshire, Shropshire and the West Midlands.

Between 3 and 21 September, a healthcare bus will be visiting 17 city and town centres across the  Midlands and east of England, to provide people with information about how to improve their health and manage any long term conditions they have.

Patients will be able to have their say about the care and treatment they receive in hospital like never before, following an initiative launched across the NHS in the Midlands and East.

NHS Midlands and East has appointed three new Associate Medical Directors, to help focus its clinical vision and priorities across the new strategic health authority cluster area.

Dr Paul Zollinger-Read, Director of Commissioning Development at NHS Midlands and East, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to healthcare.

East Midlands Strategic Health Authority will be announcing nine new ground-breaking innovation projects which could increase savings for the NHS to £13m at a regional event today.

Following the success of the last two years the Self Care Week campaign is being launched again from 14 to 20 November.

NHS Midlands and East is supporting a series of NHS videos which use humour to get over a serious message about choosing the right NHS service by highlighting some inappropriate reasons for attending A&E.
